From Passion to Powerhouse: The Rise of GetJet Airlines Under Aleksandr Celiadin’s Leadership

How Visionary Leadership and Strategic Agility Propelled GetJet Airlines to Global Success in the Competitive Aviation Industry

How One Entrepreneur’s Vision Turned a Childhood Passion into a Multimillion-Dollar Aviation Empire

In the highly competitive world of aviation, few stories are as inspiring as that of Aleksandr (Alex) Celiadin, the founder of GetJet Airlines. From humble beginnings in Vilnius to leading a multimillion-dollar aviation empire, Alex’s journey is a testament to resilience, adaptability, and a deep-rooted passion for the skies.

A Journey Rooted in Passion

Alex’s fascination with aviation began early in life, growing up next to Vilnius Airport in an aviation community dormitory. His father, an aviation engineer and Technical Director at Aurela Airlines, Lithuania’s first privately-owned charter airline, ignited his passion for the industry. “It was almost inevitable that I would develop a deep passion for aviation,” Alex recalls, reflecting on his early days working as a sales assistant at Aurela Airlines in 2007. Seven years later, this passion culminated in the founding of GetJet Airlines, a company that has since become a key player in the ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) leasing sector.

GetJet Airlines: A Unique Player in the Industry

GetJet Airlines has carved out a unique niche in the aviation industry by focusing on ACMI leasing. “We are the airline for other airlines,” Alex explains. When carriers face unexpected challenges like aircraft shortages or sudden demand spikes, GetJet steps in with fully operational aircraft, complete with experienced crews, maintenance, and insurance. This flexibility and reliability have made GetJet a preferred partner for over 30 renowned airlines worldwide, including Wizz Air, Finnair, and Icelandair.

Principles Behind the Success

The success of GetJet Airlines is no accident. Alex attributes the company’s growth to a set of core principles that guide every decision. “We focus on hiring the right people, managing assets wisely, and always staying customer and market-oriented,” he says. This disciplined approach has paid off, with the company achieving record profits in 2023, most of which were reinvested into expanding its aviation assets and enhancing organizational capabilities.

The Strategic Advantage of Vilnius

Despite his love for Lithuania, Alex admits that his decision to base GetJet in Vilnius was more than just personal. “Here in Vilnius, we’ve managed to put together a great team,” he says, praising the local talent as some of the best in Europe. This strong foundation has enabled GetJet to deliver high-quality aviation services worldwide, further solidifying its reputation in the industry.

The Move to Dubai: A Global Perspective

In 2020, Alex relocated his family to Dubai, recognizing the city’s potential as a global aviation hub. “Dubai allows me to network with key industry players more effectively,” he explains. While his heart remains in Lithuania, Alex sees Dubai as the perfect base for expanding GetJet’s network and staying at the forefront of industry developments.

Lessons in Leadership

Over the years, Alex has learned valuable lessons in leadership, particularly the importance of resilience and adaptability. The COVID-19 pandemic was a challenging time for GetJet, forcing the company to make tough decisions, including layoffs. However, these challenges also underscored the importance of staying calm under pressure and finding innovative solutions, such as repurposing a wide-body Airbus A330 for COVID-19 relief efforts.

Challenges and Future of the Aviation Industry

As the aviation industry recovers from the pandemic, Alex identifies several key challenges, including supply chain disruptions and the rising costs of aircraft leases. However, GetJet is well-positioned to navigate these challenges, thanks to its strategic investments in self-sufficiency, including crew training and in-house maintenance.

Looking ahead, Alex is optimistic about the future of the ACMI market. He believes that smaller, independent airlines like GetJet will continue to thrive, offering the flexibility and reliability that larger carriers struggle to provide. “Ultimately, it will always come down to the price and agility,” he says.

Staying Competitive: The GetJet Advantage

In a highly competitive industry, GetJet’s agility is its greatest asset. Alex likens his company to a Formula 1 team, capable of rapid acceleration and nimble turns. “We’re obsessed with delivering premium service and quality,” he emphasizes, noting that this focus allows GetJet to meet clients’ needs promptly and effectively.

Future Goals and Expansion

Looking to the future, GetJet has ambitious plans for growth. Alex aims to attract €150 million in external capital to diversify services and achieve a €1 billion turnover by 2030. This includes establishing in-house maintenance facilities, expanding fleet management capabilities, and investing in spare part trading to enhance service reliability.

A Pilot at Heart

Despite his success in the boardroom, Alex remains a pilot at heart. He holds an FAA Commercial Pilot License and enjoys private flying, although he humbly admits he’s “not that skilled” to fly GetJet’s commercial jets. Nevertheless, his passion for aviation continues to drive GetJet’s success, ensuring that the company remains a leader in the industry for years to come.

In an industry where agility and adaptability are key, Aleksandr Celiadin’s leadership of GetJet Airlines serves as a powerful example of how passion, discipline, and strategic foresight can turn a small charter airline into a global powerhouse. As GetJet continues to grow and innovate, it’s clear that the sky is not the limit—it’s just the beginning.
